Farmers and Rural Communities in Transformative Futures: Which Role for Digital Technologies?

2022, November 16 @ 09:00 - 14:00

The green and digital transitions are shaping our future. In agriculture, digital technologies could enable efficient and sustainable production of food and biomaterials. For rural areas, digital connectivity is vital for improving the quality of life, ensuring more balanced territorial development and economic prosperity. Together, green and digital transitions could foster our resilience to the future shocks and disruptions. Yet, digitalisation of agriculture and rural areas raises vital questions about winners and losers, costs, benefits, and long-term implications.

In this workshop, we will explore your perceptions and assumptions about the role of digital technologies in the lives of farmers and rural communities. What kind of tensions or limitations do these perceptions reveal? What are the underlying causes behind the present situation? Together we will try to reframe the current views and imagine a new way of thinking about digital technologies that will help build transformative futures.

The aim of the foresight study is to examine how digitalisation policies and strategies can contribute to the resilience of the agricultural sector and rural areas in light of potential disruptive and transformative changes.

The workshop is organised in cooperation with AgriFood Lithuania
