On May 5\u20136, Vilnius will host an international conference dedicated to bridging agriculture, forestry, and energy sectors in pursuit of climate neutrality. The event is organised by Agrifood Lithuania together with GFarm project partners.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Agrifood Lithuania is proud to invite specialists, researchers, policymakers, and business representatives to a two-day international conference \u2014 “Bridging Innovation Across Agriculture, Forestry, and Energy Fields” \u2014 taking place on May 5\u20136, 2026 in Vilnius.<\/p>\n

This event marks a significant milestone: the final monitoring review of the GFarm project, co-funded by the European Union under the LIFE Programme. It is both an opportunity to take stock of what has been achieved and to look ahead \u2014 discussing how the solutions developed through GFarm can be scaled and replicated across Europe.<\/p>\n

About the GFarm Project<\/strong><\/p>\n

GFarm is an innovative project that has developed an integrated greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring platform covering both agricultural and forest lands. Over several years, the project team has built practical tools, gathered valuable data, and tested carbon farming methods that have the potential to underpin broader European climate policy. The project is implemented under Grant Agreement No. 101112894.<\/p>\n

Conference Programme<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first day of the conference will take place at the Pacai Conference Hall (Did\u017eioji str. 7, Vilnius) and will include:<\/p>\n

The conference will be opened by Kristina \u0160ermuk\u0161nyt\u0117-Ale\u0161i\u016bnien\u0117, Chief Executive of Agrifood Lithuania, followed by welcoming remarks from Hana Mandelikova of CINEA \u2014 the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, which administers the LIFE Programme on behalf of the EU.<\/p>\n

Romualdas Lapickis will present the GFarm project results \u2014 the tools developed, the targets reached, and the practical lessons learned that can inform future carbon farming initiatives across Europe.<\/p>\n

A roundtable discussion will bring together representatives from Vytautas Magnus University, the State Forest Service of Lithuania, FAOL, and Interior Cluster Sweden to explore how the GFarm platform could be aligned with the FOREST 4.0 initiative and what the future of cross-sector GHG monitoring looks like.<\/p>\n

The afternoon sessions will focus on the intersection of energy and agriculture. Agn\u0117 Stonien\u0117 from the Energy Efficiency Competence Center will present how reduced energy costs can become a genuine competitive advantage for farmers. This will be followed by discussions on integrating renewable energy into farming practices and embedding circular economy solutions into the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

The second day (Mokslinink\u0173 str. 2A, Vilnius) is dedicated to the GFarm consortium’s internal review \u2014 evaluating the project, reflecting on lessons learned, and exploring opportunities for the model’s continuation and replication.<\/p>\n
